About B.A.G & Company:
We may not be able to solve food, housing, and job insecurity for the entire nation, but we can take care of our own backyard. Our mission prioritizes food sovereignty, self-sustainability, and community-driven economic development. We believe that while charitable support, such as food giveaways, housing vouchers, or minimum wage jobs, provides temporary relief, it doesn’t build thriving communities. In fact, they can dull the deeper pursuit of life, liberty, and true happiness.
There is no greater oppression than the kind you can’t see; the quiet type that keeps people disconnected from the land, unaware of their rights, and locked out of opportunities they’ve never been shown. The most urgent need often lies in communities that lack access to financial literacy, land stewardship knowledge, civic awareness, and practical pathways to economic self-sufficiency. We aim to shift that. By introducing practical tools such as financial literacy, land use education, emotional resilience, and self-sufficiency, we plant more than seeds in the soil. We plant vision in our children, purpose in our parents, and power in our neighborhoods; this is how we grow real opportunity.
Our focus is on putting seeds (literal and metaphorical) into the hands of future generations while nourishing the neighborhoods in which they grow. Durham has a chance to be more than a city with potential; it can be a blueprint for what’s possible when we come together. By fertilizing the ground beneath all our feet, we can grow a future rooted in environmental, economic, and cultural wealth that nourishes everyone. Let's make this city a living example of what community care and collaboration can truly harvest.
